SR22 Cheap Insurance: Is it real?

If you are looking for an SR22, cheap insurance is not what you are looking for. An SR22 insurance
policy is required when a driver has to have a special policy due to various reasons such as
habitually lapsing in insurance coverage, DUI or reckless driving, or having a suspended or revoked
license. This policy requires the insurance company to inform the state, either the DMV or Secretary
of State, of the driver’s insurance coverage. This proves to the state that the driver is financially
responsible and that no lapse in coverage is occurring.

An SR22 is often required if a driver has had frequent, habitual lapses in coverage. Most states
require continuous coverage or your license can be suspended or even revoked. Minimum coverage that
is required varies from state to state, however for those states with SR22s the coverage is at least
$25,000 per person for bodily injury and $10,000 property damage. Having multiple citations or
violations of any kind can cause the DMV to require you to have an SR22 policy. In cases where a
driver has been issued a citation or ticket for DUI, they may require an SR22. If this is a requirement
it can be hard to find as you are now considered a high risk driver. You may also have restrictions put
on your license, such as only being allowed to drive when necessary, to school, work, or for medical
reasons. If this is the case, your SR22 insurance is only effective when you are driving when and where
you have been allowed to by the state.

If you are in the situation where you need to have SR22, cheap insurance companies are not always
the best choice. Finding a reputable company that specializes in SR22’s , DUI’s , or other related
issues, will ensure that you are complying to state minimum requirements. Those that specialize in
these situations are also more likely to be able to work with your situation and be helpful. Make
sure that you get as many quotes as possible to compare what insurance carriers have to offer. At
least five quotes are required to be able to compare policies.

Having to have an SR22 is not the end of the world. While it can make things harder, it is typically
only necessary for up to 36 months. Following the rules of your particular situation, keeping continuous
coverage, and not getting any further violations can help you to return to a normal insurance policy.
Finding a policy for SR22, cheap, can be more challenging, but it is possible if you shop around.
